Steel Frame is Built for Safety

The Power Wheels Dune Racer is constructed with a sturdy steel frame that supports a maximum weight of 130 pounds. Sleek chrome accents on the rims, bumper, and shifter highlight its durable bright green plastic exterior. A pair of metal sidebars provides stable hand supports, while the pretend seatbelts with Velcro fasteners help get kids in the habit of buckling up. For added safety, the interior of the vehicle features smooth contours and rounded edges to protect against cuts and scratches.

Monster Traction Drives on Rough Terrain

The Power Wheels Dune Racer is designed to navigate rough terrain for off-road fun. The vehicle's big, rugged tires and Monster Traction drive system keep it from getting stuck--hard surfaces, lush lawns, wet grass, gravel, and mud are no obstacle at all! Common backyard bumps like tree roots, ruts, sidewalk and driveway edges, and garden hoses are also easily navigable.

Two Speeds for Beginners and Advanced Users

Whether your child is a beginner or an advanced driver, the Dune Racer's two driving speeds can accommodate him or her. The vehicle features an electronic power lock braking system that automatically stops the vehicle when your child's foot lifts from the pedal. A shifter with high-speed lockout for beginners provides custom control of driving speeds--low speed for normal 2-1/2-mph cruising, and high speed for maximum 5-mph racing. The vehicle can also shift into reverse for convenient backing up.

The Power Wheels Dune Racer performed remarkably well in testing. The vehicle took approximately 90 minutes to assemble and 18 hours to fully charge. Its solid construction and low center of gravity provided optimal handling and balance. Thanks to its 12-volt rechargeable battery, the vehicle drove with sufficient power backwards and forwards, providing an enjoyable ride. However, steering capability was somewhat limited, and the plastic tires easily wear on hard surfaces. Despite these concerns, kids will likely appreciate the sleek styling, powerful handling, and custom controls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bang for your Buck, June 5, 2011

It took my husband and father in-law about 45 minutes to put this together (not including the stickers - takes a female touch). I like how this is low to the ground, has a bar on each side so they do not easily fall out, and wide for stability. The steering wheel is also easy for him to use. Only two cons = my son is a short 3 year old and the pedal is hard for him to reach(I put a foam pad behind him to help push him forward)and the shifter lays right under his leg used to push the gas pedal(shifter is easily bumped). He does not seem to mind these cons it is just the parents and he can grow into it!!!! The traction is awesome and can go over or through MOST anything(wet long grass on a hill included)!!! It does really well with two kids in it and there is plenty of room.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
For the sake of comparison, I also have the more traditional Power Wheels Barbie Jammin Jeep Wrangler, which, admittedly, isn't as boy-oriented in terms of cosmetics.

Out of the box, my very first thought was "is that a box steel frame?". Sure enough, it was. The Dune Racer seemed pretty serious. So serious, in fact, that it wasn't until I was in to step 12 or so, before I noticed that the wheels even have directional treads. (Note to parents / assemblers: the front wheels are helpfully marked "left" and "right". The rear wheels, which go on before the front wheels, have no such marking, and are not designed to ever come off of the axle after being installed.)

Total assembly time on my own was a good hour plus. Easily twice the time of a "normal" Power Wheels model, but in retrospect, for good reason. Between the... Read more

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
**Prior to first use, the battery must be charged for 18-24 hours!** I had a Jeep model Power Wheel ride-on when my children were younger and smaller. They are now 12 and almost 11. Yes, of course they are too big and too old for this toy, however any child will squish themselves into these ride-ons for as long as they possibly can! My kids were thrilled to learn that I was able to get this through The Amazon Vine Program. They rode their old Jeep so much that I had to order new wheels! There are so many things we LOVE about this Dune Buggy ride-on! For starters it is definietly a bit larger than the typical two-seat Power Wheel ride-on. The Dune Buggy has extra large (taller) rear wheels, and the width of it is also wider than typical so it fits my kids much easier than a traditional size model. The best part is the lack of "dashboard" to this model so bigger kids can get in and out of the Buggy more easily. Very young kids may find the lack of dashboard more cumbersome to navigate...
